When my friend Sandra suggested RPM Steak for a couples’ night out, I was pretty excited to see what all of the RPM hype is about. I haven’t been to RPM Italian yet, and I’m not a big steak eater, but I was sure there would be plenty for me to try.
We were seated quickly in the bar area, in a nice rounded booth with a good view of the two-story restaurant. Our waiter was attentive, and we ordered beverages right away.
Food options were a little more difficult to decide, so we decided to eat like kings! For appetizers (which were all a hit), we ordered the Thick Cut Bacon, Roasted Bone Marrow, and Giuliana’s Chopped Salad, which was my favorite item of the night! (It was like a delicious salad without the lettuce, which you just eat to get to the good stuff anyway.) The Parker House Rolls with Rosemary Nordic Butter were also mouthwatering, too.
Next, on to main courses and sides. I opted for the Dry Aged Steak Burger, which arrived in front of me on a silver platter–no joke! Only problem was…it wasn’t my favorite. I had already had so much delicious food that this just didn’t hold up to the same standard. I think I didn’t order the right entree, either. A steak would have been more appropriate. Perhaps the 38 oz. Dry-Aged Steak that the boys ordered. (It looked pretty amazing.) Sandra ordered the Macaroni and Cheese, which also looked decadent. For sides, we sampled the sautéed broccolini and the Millionaire’s Potato, double baked with fontina cheese and black truffle (too rich for me to even try!). I felt like a millionaire with so much amazing food on our table!
Would I recommend RPM Steak? If you’re looking for an extra special meal and budget is no object, yes, for sure! I know we definitely enjoyed our meal–and the company was even better!!!

Tell me something: What took me so long to try Spacca Napoli? I don’t think I’ll ever know, but let me tell you why YOU need to go (if you haven’t already; if you have, spread the word!).
I heard this was Mayor Rahm Emanuel‘s favorite pizza in the city, and I can definitely see why. This Neapolitan-style pizza is so delicious, it left me wanting more–and we ordered three pizzas! We being myself, Nate, and our friends Bridget and Trey.
I’m constantly striving to visit new neighborhoods/neighborhoods I don’t explore often, so I suggested some options near where Bridget and Trey live. To Ravenswood we went, starting with a nice white wine and Polpo Grigliato (grilled octopus with arugula and tomatoes). Perfect serving for four and great dish to hold us over while we waited for our pizza.
For our brick-oven, Neapolitan-style pizza, we tried: Margherita, Salsiccia (sausage), and Prosciutto and e Rucola (prosciutto and arugula) pizzas. The pizzas are served uncut and are big enough to share, giving the experience a very family-style feel that I liked. All of the pizzas were fresh and delicious, and it was nice to be able to taste more than one. Three pizzas was a good order for us, but bad because we were too full to eat anything else!
I’m definitely going to return. There are too many different pizzas for me to taste (if you can’t tell, I love pizza)! Make sure to put this restaurant on your “to try list”!
Notes for my friends with dietary needs: they can make you gluten-free pizzas with 24 hours notice and have a dairy-free option, too.

Over my holiday vacation, I revisited Palm Court at the Drake to enjoy their high tea service with my Mom, sister Lauren (who was in town from New York), and sister-in-law, Melissa.
We met at the Drake on a chilly winter afternoon. It was very crowded, but luckily they were waiting for us, and we were seated at a nice round table in a quieter area of the grand room. I ordered “my usual” (chamomile citrus), while the girls ordered an assortment of black teas.
I’ve shared with you the menu of assorted breads, sandwiches, and pastries before, so be sure to check out the photos below as the offerings were slightly different than before, especially the desserts (the spiced cheesecake with the cute little gingerbread chocolate was my fave). It was fun to just relax from the busy holiday season to enjoy time with the ladies in my family.
It was extra special for us to have time with Lauren, who has three adorable small children (two hilarious girls and a sweet baby boy), which means she’s usually pretty busy, as you can imagine. Thank you for organizing, Melissa!
