This day is such a blessed one.
Six years ago, I was celebrating my brother- and sister-in-law’s lavish wedding celebration at the Rookery Building in Chicago.
Last year, another fabulous wedding for my best friend and her hubby in the burbs.
And two years ago, I was in the middle to end of a 25-hour labor with my bundle of joy at Prentice downtown. Yes, the last one was a little more uncomfortable than the first two. (Not going to share a photo here.)
When E turned one, I was so busy with the wedding and still in the thick of balancing work and baby and (trying to have a) life, that I didn’t feel as reflective as I am this year.
I was in bed last night crying. Everyone has a story, and it’s not always easy. I was crying with gratitude. With happiness.
My almost two-year-old little girl is happy and healthy and smart and sassy and funny and sweet and wild and…did I mention sassy? Oh my word, I know there are ups and downs, but let me tell you, this is the best ride I’ve ever been on.
All of the sleepless nights, the lack of a social life, the blow outs (and I don’t mean getting my hair done), the never ending colds, the random stains I discover on my shirt while at work, the crying that hurts your insides so deep…I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
June 25th. A day filled with lots of love. Filled with moments of new beginnings in marriage and life. Of excitement and nerves and anticipation of what’s to come. What a special day! Xo
I LOVE newborns. The way they are so serene when they sleep. How they smell. How they look at you. It makes my heart sing.
As crazy (understatement) as that time is when you first welcome your baby to the world, it’s also amazing and beautiful and miraculous and one of a kind and way too short.
I’m waiting (not patiently) for some sweet babies to make their arrival. (Not mine, just to be clear!) Come soon, will you?
Until then, wait some more with me and check out this photo from day one when my little woman was born. I love to remember the day.
Fresh babies. Ah, gotta love them! And look at that paci!!!
Over the past nine and a half months, I’ve witnessed one of the most special things: Ellie becoming best friends with her pal, Graham.
Graham is the son of one of my best friends, Sandra, who I met when we were co-workers years ago. Sandra and I have laughed together, cried together (ok, so maybe it’s mostly me crying to her, honestly), vacationed together, enjoyed being pregnant together, and now our little ones spend lots of time together.
What is so amazing to me is observing their friendship. Graham is a few months older, and definitely takes care of her, teases her, shows affection to her: all signs of a wonderful friend. Haha.
What makes me so happy, though, is the way she waves her arms with excitement when we get to their house. And the look she gives him when they are together, totally content. Or how worn out she gets after being with him–thanks, G!
This weekend was Graham’s first birthday, and I’m feeling a little reflective. I’m grateful to know E and G have each other warms my heart like no other. To think that they are just starting to navigate this crazy world we live in and they can do it together? That’s pretty special.
The cherry on top? I get to share it all with Sandra and our hubbies, too.
