Best Friends Since the Beginning

Over the past nine and a half months, I’ve witnessed one of the most special things: Ellie becoming best friends with her pal, Graham.

Graham is the son of one of my best friends, Sandra, who I met when we were co-workers years ago. Sandra and I have laughed together, cried together (ok, so maybe it’s mostly me crying to her, honestly), vacationed together, enjoyed being pregnant together, and now our little ones spend lots of time together. 

What is so amazing to me is observing their friendship. Graham is a few months older, and definitely takes care of her, teases her, shows affection to her: all signs of a wonderful friend. Haha. 

What makes me so happy, though, is the way she waves her arms with excitement when we get to their house. And the look she gives him when they are together, totally content. Or how worn out she gets after being with him–thanks, G!

This weekend was Graham’s first birthday, and I’m feeling a little reflective. I’m grateful to know E and G have each other warms my heart like no other. To think that they are just starting to navigate this crazy world we live in and they can do it together? That’s pretty special. 

The cherry on top? I get to share it all with Sandra and our hubbies, too.  

2015

Ahh, a new year. A new me. A fresh start. Not sure if it’ll be true, but it’s kind of nice to think so.

When I was younger, I would make really long lists of resolutions that I would never follow through on (Yes, I’m 32 years old and still bite my nails. And, yes, I know it’s gross.). But the optimism is contagious during this time of year, so I’m going to roll with it and make a few more resolutions this year.

1. Put my phone down more.
It’s been brought to my attention that I spend too much time on my phone (checking my Instagram and Facebook feeds, playing games, reading People.com, etc.) when I could be a lot more productive and present. I promise my husband, family, and friends that I will do this (unless doing Second City Gal assignments, of course!).

2. Learn more.
Nate and I have gotten into watching Jeopardy lately, and I love the trivia. I want to learn more: listen to more podcasts, read more books (yes, I’m a writer/editor who doesn’t read nearly as much as I should), watch more, and do more.

3. Take more video.
I’m going to challenge myself with taking one second of video every day this year. A friend of mine has been doing this for awhile, and I think it’s a really cool project that will be so meaningful in 365 days. Can’t wait to share the final product with you!

4. Share my Second City Gal experiences more.
I seriously neglected this blog last year, and I sincerely apologize. Sometimes life gets in the way, and life was tough last year. But I went to amazing places like tea at the Langham, a walking tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio, and ate at my cool places…and I haven’t told you about them yet. I’m going to start more #tbt and #fbf posts to share those experiences with you. I want you to get as much out of this blog as I do, so please let me know of cool things going on! I’ve updated my to-do list here.

Well, I’m excited to continue this journey with you. I also really need to pack for my next great adventure–I’m leaving for Nice and Barcelona on Saturday for work! I couldn’t be more appreciative for the opportunity and promise to share some photos of my favorite things when I return.
